Martin Skrtel has turned down the chance to sign for Inter Milan and has instead opted to remain at Liverpool, according to his agent, amid reports that he has already agreed a new three-year deal.
Skrtel's existing deal expires next summer and earlier this month he described a contract offer from the club as "unacceptable."
However, the centre-back looks set to remain at Anfield after his agent, Karol Csonto, confirmed he is to commit to Liverpool.
The Times reports that the Slovakia international has agreed a new deal which will run until 2018, and will put pen to paper once he returns from holiday.
"I confess that there were not mere rumours, the interest from Inter was real," Csonto said in the Liverpool Echo. "The deal did not go ahead, but there was contact made.
"The player had been thinking about his future and eventually opted to remain at Liverpool."
Skrtel, 30, signed for Liverpool from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008 and he has since made 212 Premier League starts for Liverpool.
The Reds, who start the 2015-16 season at Stoke, have already agreed deals for James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan as manager Brendan Rodgers plans for next campaign.
