Goals from Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata saw United to a 3-0 win over Sunderland, which means, quite incredibly, that they will be top of the league at the end of a game-week for the first time since Fergie left the club.
Much of the talk from Van Gaal recently has been about how he wants to leave a legacy of young players for his successor, and with the likes of Memphis and Anthony Martial shining at Old Trafford at the moment, his plans appear to be coming together.
