McLaughlin, 20, is highly-rated within the club's Melwood training base but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the club. He, like a number of academy graduates, will head out on loan to gain senior football experience.
The 20-year-old joins the likes of Sheyi Ojo, Andre Wisdom, Kevin Stewart and Lloyd Jones who have left the club on loan this summer.
The full-back has already made two appearances for Northern Ireland and will hope to return in January to make an impact on Brendan Rodgers' side.
Meanwhile, the club's positive start to the Premier League season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-0 to West Ham United at Anfield.
The issues in defeat stemmed from defensive mistakes which had become uncharacteristic on the evidence of this season.
Liverpool took seven points from their first three games, without conceding a goal, but the back-line of Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel and Nathaniel Clyne was breached too easily by the Hammers.
Lovren, in particular, was poor. He made a poor error which lead to Mark Noble adding a second goal for the visitors, who themselves have been less than consistent this season.
Slaven Bilic's side followed up a win at Arsenal on the opening weekend with back to back home defeats to Leicester City and Bournemouth prior to Saturday's game.
