United have stood firm in their negotiations with Madrid throughout the summer, insisting that De Gea will only be sold if Ramos goes the other way.
And it appears that a deal is now closer than ever after United submitted a fresh bid for the Spanish centre-back.
According to El Pais, United lodged the offer over the weekend, with Madrid increasingly open to accepting as they search for a capable successor to Iker Casillas.
Madrid have reportedly decided that Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla, while solid, are not good enough to completely replace Casillas, and as such are now prioritising signing De Gea this summer.
De Gea has already reached a personal agreement with Madrid, and while the Spaniards were willing to let him run down his contract at Old Trafford, they could now accept United's Ramos offer in order a negotiate a fee for the ex-Atletico keeper.
For his part, Ramos is still understood to be keen to leave Madrid, with his relationship with the club thought to be irrevocably damaged.
