Gary Neville believes Manchester United are far better placed to mount a title challenge next term as Louis van Gaal enters his second season at the club.
The Red Devils finished fourth last season and, despite having just 13 points from ten matches last season, the Manchester giants managed to achieve their minimum target of finishing in the Champions League positions.
Van Gaal’s side have made just one signing this summer – Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven – and have offloaded Radamel Falcao who joined Chelsea yesterday.
However, Neville believes the stability at the club, as well as the Reds’ favourable first six matches, gives them a chance of getting a head start in the title race.
‘Louis van Gaal has had one season at the club now, he’s settled in, the players know him a lot more,’ said Neville.
‘I suppose there is a risk if they bring in five or six new players about how they would adapt to it but we’ve yet to see that.
‘The players that are there will adapt a lot easier this season, they’ve had a year with him, he’s had a year with them and it should be a more comfortable position to start from.’
