Arsenal have reportedly joined Manchester United in the hunt to sign
Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes as the Premier League rivals prepare to
lock horns.
The talented teenage winger has made 30 Liga NOS appearances for the club to date, scoring three goals and providing eight assists as he played his part in helping them win the league title last season.
In turn, it’s no real surprise that A Bola report that he’s attracting interest from around Europe, with Arsenal now reportedly in the race to land his signature along with United.
It’s added that Valencia are also in contention for the Portuguese international, although there is potentially a major obstacle standing in the way for any interested party.
A Bola add that Guedes is currently contracted to Benfica until 2021, while his agreement also includes a release clause of €60m.
As a result, it will take a significant offer to prise him away from the Portuguese champions and it remains to be seen who is willing to take what is still very much a gamble given his age and relative inexperience.
Nevertheless, it hasn’t stopped Arsenal from stepping up their interest to this point, as per the report, and the Gunners look set to continue to monitor his progress with a view of beating United to the signing.
As an indication of just how talented and highly-rated Guedes is around Europe, the 19-year-old was included in Tuttosport’s list of nominees to win the 2016 Golden Boy award.
