Sturridge enjoyed a stellar campaign at Anfield during 2013/14 when he scored 24 times as Liverpool just missed out on winning the league title for the first time since 1990.
He made only 18 appearances last season due to thigh, calf and hip problems but returned to Melwood from the States three weeks ago to complete his recovery from injury.
Rodgers is also likely to be without the services of Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana for this weekend's game at Old Trafford.
Henderson has a foot injury and Lallana a thigh problem and neither player has trained fully this week.
