I don't think I'll ever tire of talking about Robin van Persie.

At first it was pure bitterness but now there's an unhealthy dose of schadenfreude in play. I know this.

The way his career has gone since he left Arsenal has been a thing of beauty and it had all threatened to go so very differently.

When he replicated his last season at Arsenal form during his first season with that lot and single-handedly won them the Premier League, I couldn't help but fear the worst.

So bad were United that season that Van Persie was the difference between them and the rest of the league and had he stayed at Arsenal he could very well have picked up his medal with the Gunners and still actually be liked by some people.

But apart from that one medal (we aren't counting Community Shield wins) his career has been on a downward trajectory ever since.

That's not saying that his form would have remained high at Arsenal, but at least he would have had a load of love in the bank with the management and fans that would have seen him through his decline rather than see him on the verge of being discarded because of it.

He'd also have an extra medal in his pocket and no seasons out of Europe.

Had he stayed with Arsenal he would have left a legacy but instead he chose to chase glory with Sir Alex Ferguson who then buggered off and, as I said when he first left, I'm sure he will come to regret making the decision to burn his ties in London if he doesn't already.

I love being right.

He's back at United for pre-season training but I don't think anyone is banking on him still being there when the window closes. Where will he end up? Please let it be Turkey.

Had he stayed at Arsenal there would be no question over his future as there is now. The fans wouldn't hate him and he would be revered for having stood by the club that stood by him through tough times on both sides.

Then again, had he stayed, Arsenal probably wouldn't have signed Alexis Sanchez.
Good move Robin, thanks!
